Hands for Homes

For over 33 years Saratoga Tower has been providing homes for seniors and people with disabilities in Grundy County. With an average household income of $12,000.00 a year, many of our neighbors who live there simply have nowhere else to go. However, recent proposed cuts to the federal budget threaten the ability of Saratoga Tower to effectively continue this important work. For this reason, we are teaming up to start Hands for Homes, a unique and exciting way for you to help the people who live at Saratoga Tower, and help other vital organizations in Grundy County. There are two ways you can help:

1. Send a Crew!

When people move out of apartments at Saratoga Tower, each apartment must be prepared for its new residents. Your crew of six to eight people can help with this cleaning, painting, and other preparation, helping ensure a low income senior or person with a disability has a home for years to come. What is more, The Grundy County Housing Authority will make a donation to the non-profit organization of your choice! The amount of this donation will vary, based on the work to be completed for each apartment. We’ll supply the materials, you supply the labor, and the more you do, the more you can earn to benefit your non-profit – up to $1,000.00 per apartment.

2. Send a Donation!

On average it costs $550.00 in materials for each apartment to be rehabilitated. Your tax deductible donation can buy the paints, cleaning supplies, toilet, faucets, floor tiles or other materials necessary to return each apartment as close as possible to its original condition. By making a donation to sponsor a home, you too can help to ensure a safe, decent roof remains over the head of a senior or person with a disability.
